Things worth including

None of these is required, and any one of them makes an answer faster.

  • Which app: Sonari on a Mac computer, or Sonari Remote on an iPhone.
  • The version. On the Mac it is in Help, then About Sonari. On the iPhone it is at the foot of the home screen.
  • What you were doing, and what happened instead.

The questions that come up most

Sonari cannot see my hands

Hold one hand up and open, about 50 cm from the camera, roughly at chest height, palm towards the screen. A hand outline appears on screen as soon as tracking has you.

If the outline never appears, the usual cause is camera access. Open System Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Camera, and make sure Sonari is allowed. For fifteen of the seventeen playing styles the camera is the instrument's input, the way a microphone is a voice recorder's, and they cannot work without it.

Two styles need no camera at all. Key Deck is played on the Mac itself, with seven chords under the number keys and a melody across the letter rows. Breath is played into a paired iPhone. If the camera is unavailable, or there is no room to move, either one plays straight away.

There is no sound

Sonari contains a 64 voice synthesizer with over 10,000 instruments and makes sound on its own, so no other software is needed.

If a music application is open, Sonari deliberately steps aside and lets it lead, and the status pill names whichever one is sounding. That is intended behaviour rather than a fault. The Sound panel has a one-click "Play Both" if you want them together.

My iPhone will not connect

Both devices need to be on the same local network, and Sonari Remote needs local network permission the first time.

On the Mac, open Settings, then iPhone, to see a six digit code. Type it on the phone once. After that the two find each other by themselves and reconnect on their own if the network drops.

Sonari Remote says it needs a Mac

It does. Sonari Remote is one half of an instrument. The sound is made on the Mac. The phone contributes motion, breath, touch and orientation, which is what a camera cannot see.

Every screen in Sonari Remote is reachable without a Mac, but nothing will play.

Does Sonari work on an Intel Mac

No. Reading your hands takes about 3 ms on Apple silicon and about 25 ms without it, and the slower figure alone spends the whole budget a note has before it stops feeling like an instrument. An Intel build would install and would not be playable.

Sonari requires macOS 26 or later on a Mac computer with Apple silicon.

Privacy

Sonari collects nothing. No account, no server, no analytics, no crash reporting, no third-party code of any kind. The full statement, including what the performance journal can and cannot hold, is the privacy policy.
